A Visit to the East Midlands

Due to the suspension of Masonic activity the Annual Meeting of the District Grand Council of East Midlands was held as a Virtual Business Meeting on Saturday 23rd May 2021. Attending was the Right Illustrious Grand Principal Conductor of the Work, Richard L. Gan, JP; the Grand Recorder, R.Ill.Comp. Ryan Williams; the Assistant Grand Recorder, Ill.Comp. Dan Heath; and Companions from many other Districts. Our District Grand Principal Conductor of the Work, Ill.Comp. David Thompson and I were among the 130 plus delegates that attended the meeting.

A Visit to the East Midlands The District Grand Master for the District of the East Midlands, R.Ill.Comp. Martin John Wilson, declared the meeting open and welcomed all present. The District Grand Recorder, Ill.Comp. Ian Johnson., read the permission to hold a Virtual Business Meeting.

A Visit to the East Midlands The Minutes of the District Grand Council Virtual Business Meeting held on Saturday 26th September 2020 were approved by the Companions. After the regular business of the District was completed, the District Grand Council Officers for the ensuing year were appointed.

The District Grand Master invited the Right Illustrious Grand Principal Conductor of the Work to address the meeting. He expressed his thanks for the invitation to the meeting and spoke about the benefits of Zoom which has allowed a full participation at the meeting from Companions from near and far as shown by the attendance at this meeting.

A Visit to the East Midlands The Grand Recorder, R.Ill.Comp. Ryan Williams, updated the Companions on the work being undertaken at Mark Masons Hall to prepare for the resumption of Masonic activities, but at the same time learning lessons from the pandemic such as the use of virtual platforms and looking after our Companions. There have been between 350 to 400 Provinces and Districts making use of the Virtual Business Meetings; and they are looking at the use of virtual platforms in the future.

A Visit to the East Midlands The District Grand Master for the District of East Midlands R.Ill.Comp. Martin John Wilson then addressed the meeting. He extended a warm welcome to all, especially the Grand Principal Conductor of the Work, the Grand Recorder, the Assistant Grand Recorder, the 18 District Grand Masters, and other guests. He said that this was their second VBM and he hoped it would be their last.

Afterwards the guests, including our District Principal Conductor of the Work, all said how much they had enjoyed the meeting and wished the District of the East Midlands every success in the future.
